Tasting Notes
Our 2024 Rosé combines great freshness in a wine that is still complex and satisfying. Cranberries, rose petals and sour cherries on the nose are complemented by a silky texture and balanced acidity. Medium-bodied and light on its feet, our Rocky Road Rosé displays intense forest berries and a satisfying, dry finish, making for a perfect summer drink.

Wine Making
The Shiraz fruit was picked in the early hours of the morning from our Calgardup Brook Vineyard. It was gently pressed to tank, and a slow and cool fermentation was encouraged. Improved texture was achieved by an extended time on fine lees over the Winter months. Bottled in September and just in time for Summer.
Vintage Report
Vintage 2024 will be remembered as the earliest start of harvest at McHenry Hohnen. After good rainfalls during winter our vines reacted to the excellent moisture levels in the ground and the warm spring conditions by developing healthy canopies earlier in the season which set us for an early harvest.
Summer was characterised by zero rainfalls and above average diurnal temperatures. Depending on the blocks, veraison was anticipated across the different sites by 2-3 weeks.
The Marri blossom was incredible in 2024, we have rarely seen anything like it before. With birds totally uninterested on our crops and no disease pressure we were able to harvest pristine fruit.
We experienced a very compressed white harvest which kept our winery and vineyard teams extremely busy. The wines show expressive fruit profile, with texture and generosity but without compromising on freshness, Chardonnay and Marsanne Roussanne are the highlights.
The red harvested lasted for about 4 weeks at a very rapid pace and without interruptions, Cabernet Sauvignon was our last pick on the 18th of March, almost one month earlier than vintage 2023. Yields were lower than expected across red varietals, however the warm and dry weather created desirable conditions for our reds that are showcasing good structure, concentration, and vibrancy of colour.
