Tasting Notes
This intensely lifted wine presents tropical aromas of guava and loquat fruit along with floral aromatics of frangipani and chamomile. The palate is textural yet refreshing with crisp acidity & a salty phenolic drive. An alternative blend of varieties combining interest & great drinkability.
Vineyard
The Chenin Blanc is sourced from the Mac Vineyard in Willyabrup, while both Marsanne and Sauvignon are from our Calgardup Brook Vineyard. This vineyard lies just inland from the coast. Its soils are well drained sandy and schisty. The climate of this vineyard is strongly influenced by its immediate vicinity to the Indian Ocean.
Production Notes
A blend of three varieties: Chenin Blanc, Marsanne and Sauvignon Blanc. The fruit was picked in the cool hours of the night, whole berry pressed and transferred to a combination of stainless steel tanks and concrete vessels for extra texture and aromatic complexity. After fermentation the wine was left on fine lees until Spring and bottled early to retain freshness and aromatic lift.
Vintage Report
Vintage 2024 will be remembered as the earliest start of harvest at McHenry Hohnen. After good rainfalls during winter our vines reacted to the excellent moisture levels in the ground and the warm spring conditions by developing healthy canopies earlier in the season.
Summer was characterised by zero rainfalls and above average diurnal temperatures. The Marri blossom was incredible in 2024 and with birds totally uninterested on our crops and no disease pressure we were able to harvest pristine fruit.
The whites show expressive fruit profiles, with texture and generosity but without compromising on freshness. All our reds showcase good structure, concentration, and vibrancy.
